France, U.S. Agree on Pushing Cross-Border Tax Reform

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Marie and U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen agreed to seek an international agreement on cross-border tax reform, the U.S. Treasury and French finance ministry said after speaking on Jan. 28. More specifically, this agreement would help create new rules for taxing multinational businesses.

Paris and Washington disagreed during the Trump administration over France’s tax on digital service companies. They also clashed over reluctance from previous U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to move forward on talks to overhaul the rules for taxing cross-border commerce.
