On Monday Sept. 21, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) announced that they are planning to acquire ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks. The acquisition will be completed through a cash deal valued at $7.5 billion. Executive Vice President of Gaming at Microsoft and Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, provided more details about the deal in a blog post on Xbox’s website.
This acquisition will be Microsoft’s third largest, behind Skype and LinkedIn. The tech conglomerate has also bought several independent American and European video game studios over these past couple of years, bringing the number of gaming studios they own from 15 up to 23, including Bethesda.
