Following the nationwide lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreaks, the U.S. fitness industry is slowly returning to business. Since late May, gyms have reopened in some states of the South, Midwest, and West regions, with required restrictions.
Most recently, the governors of New York and New Jersey, two of the hardest-hit states, permitted gym operators to resume operations last week.
After the five-month closure, gyms must comply with new rules, such as limiting occupancy to a third of their capacity. Another is air filtration that is capable of helping prevent the transmission of viral particles. Members must also wear masks at all times, even when exercising on the treadmill, for example.
